A stage show combining math, science, and art. Balloons are used to construct a Rube Goldberg-style mousetrap intended to solve the problem of a mouse on the loose. Many student volunteers are used to aid in the construction of this working machine. Student knowledge of how machines work and their eagerness to set their trap in motion make this an enjoyable show for everyone involved

Making art and community out of thin air

When:  Sat, October 10, 7pm – 9pm
Where:  Rochester Makerspace, 850 St Paul St, Rochester, NY 14605, United States (map)

Making has the power to build, unite, and transform communities. Larry Moss and Kelly Cheatle make art in creative environments with the help of the community. Community members may consider themselves artists, engineers, teachers, makers, or they may describe themselves in a variety of other ways. Each person brings something to the creative endeavor. What's important is the result of true community collaboration. Today, maker spaces simplify the task of finding other like-minded individuals and the tools to create. Let's use those resources to create art that can change the world. Larry and Kelly will share tales of their adventures in making with communities around the world, talk about their project in Rochester coming this winter, and share insights that might help other makers, from concept creation, to managing teams, to crowd funding. If you are a maker or have wondered what the whole maker movement is about, join us for a fun talk and follow-up discussion.
